چکیده

Abstract In recent years, the growing popularity of services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ has raised complex challenges for media policy. Established policy approaches in a range areas including audio-visual licensing, classification, censorship, local production support are now being disrupted governments grapple with “Netflix effect” its implications national markets institutions. This chapter explores discoverability emerged topic debate, specifically relation services, this is connected precedents law prominence regulation. We reflect on many tensions inherent area policy—which exists at interface platform regulation—and consider some normative questions when intervene audiences’ choices.

Scalable Services for Video-on-demand

Video-on-demand (VOD) refers to video services in which users can request any video program from a server at any time. VOD has important applications in entertainment, education, information, and adverstising, such as movie-on-demand, distance learning, home shopping, interactive news, etc. In order to provide VOD services accommodating a large number of video titles and concurrent users, a VOD...

Providing On - Demand Video Services Using Request

| In an on-demand video system, requests for a video le arriving within a period of time can be batched together and served with a single multicast stream; thereby reducing the bandwidth requirement compared with the un-batched case. In this paper, we study various batching schemes to meet delay and prootability requirements | in the window-size based and moving-average schemes, maximum and ave...

Fault Tolerant Video on Demand Services

This paper describes a highly available distributed video on demand (VoD) service which is inherently fault tolerant. The VoD service is provided by multiple servers that reside at different sites. New servers may be brought up “on the fly” to alleviate the load on other servers. When a server crashes it is replaced by another server in a transparent way; the clients are unaware of the change o...

Eecient Video Allocation for Video-on-demand Services

A Video-on-Demand (VOD) server needs to store hundreds of movie titles and to support thousands of concurrent accesses. This, technically and economically, imposes a great challenge on the design of the disk storage subsystem of a VOD server. Due to diierent demands for diierent movie titles, the numbers of concurrent accesses to each movie can diier a lot. We deene access proole as the number ...

Providing Interactive Video on Demand Services in Distributed Architecture

True VoD systems provide interactive on-demand video service by allocating each client a dedicated stream. Such a scheme is inefficient when the system has a large number of users. A more scalable solution is to use a combination of multicast and unicast channels with client buffering. The present paper shows the design of a VoD proxy server that accepts interactive commands from the users usin...
